What we store on your device

EMconvert uses very little browser storage, and most of what it does use is local storage rather than cookies — the difference matters to some readers, so each entry below names which it is.

• emconvert_session (local storage) — a random session identifier that links your browser to your conversion history and credit wallet. Without it, history and credits cannot follow you between visits.
• down_locale_pref (local storage and a cookie, one year, SameSite=Lax) — the language you chose, so the site stops guessing from your region.
• down_locale_auto (session storage) — remembers that we already offered you a language switch this visit, so the banner does not reappear on every page.
• A single-use job token — issued by our API for one conversion record and discarded as soon as it is used. It is not stored on your device.
• Our edge provider may also set its own short-lived security cookie to tell automated traffic from real visitors. It carries no profile and expires quickly.

The files you convert are not stored

Your files are read into memory and converted there; the output is handed to you through a temporary blob: URL. Nothing you convert is written to cookies, local storage, session storage or any other persistent browser storage, and it is gone when the tab closes.

Audio and video tools cache the roughly 31 MB ffmpeg engine the way your browser caches any other downloaded asset, so the second conversion does not re-download it. That cache holds our engine, never your file.

Analytics

Our edge provider serves a privacy-preserving analytics beacon that counts page views and load timings. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.

What we do not set

No advertising cookies. No cross-site trackers. No third-party analytics that profile you across the web. No session recording. The site loads no third-party scripts other than the analytics beacon above, and your browser enforces that through our content-security policy.

Managing cookies and storage

Your browser can block or clear cookies and site data. Clearing this site's data discards the session identifier, which resets your conversion history and any anonymous credit balance — the conversions themselves keep working, because they never needed a server.
